10. 2004: George W. Bush (R) vs. John Kerry (D)
Gorge W. Bush (R) won the elections and and he faced trouble during the first few weeks but later everything got in his control. The United States faced many problems during his era. 9/11 and the two wars are also included in his era. There were many controversies during the few weeks before the elections but then he was reelected as the president of America.
9. 1912: William Howard Taft (R) vs. Woodrow Wilson (D) vs. Teddy Roosevelt (Progressive) vs. Eugene Debs (Socialist)
Woodrow Wilson (D) was the winner of these elections, Teddy Roosevelt (Progressive) got the second position and William Howard Taft got the third position. It was the first time that the country's most popular party wasn't able to get one of the 1st three positions.
8. 2008: Barack Obama (D) vs. John McCain (R)
The most unpredictable thing about the elections was the fight between Obama and Hillary Clinton for the presidential nomination. At the end Obama got the nomination and fought with McCain. Then there was a problem that both of the candidates had the controversy that they were not born in the United States. Sarah Palin and Joe Biden were also caught in some controversies. Thus, these elections were full of controversies.
7. 1836: Martin Van Buren (Democratic-Republican) vs. William Henry Harrison (Whig) vs. Hugh White (Whig) vs. Daniel Webster (Whig) vs. Willie Mangum (Whig)
The winner of these elections was martin Van Buren (Democratic-Republican). The whole elections' period was full of controversies. First of all there were some troubles in selecting the candidates for the elections and then the votes of the selectors also caused some amazement.
In these elections there were many cases of vote buying that were reputed. Fake letters and frauds became very common things in those days. At the end Benjamin Harrison got the winning votes.

4. 2000: George W. Bush (R) vs. Al Gore (D)
The election night was full of confusion. No one could tell at night that who would win. There were many problems with the votes. Rejection of some votes was a great problem in these elections. The recount of the votes had to go to the Supreme court but this problem was resolved later on and Bush became the president.
These elections were just after the Civil war and they are called the most corrupt elections of United States. Rutherford B. Hayes (R) was the winner of these elections.
2. 1824: John Q. Adams vs. Andrew Jackson vs. William H. Crawford vs. Henry Clay (all Democratic-Republicans)
These was the most confusing elections of the United States. Unites States has never faced such confusion other than these elections. All the four candidates had the equal popularity but John Q. Adams won.
1. 1860: Abraham Lincoln (R) vs. Stephen Douglas (D) vs. John Breckinridge (Southern Democrat) vs. John Bell (Constitutional Union)
Lincoln was the winner and was not on the ballot of the entire south but still he won. Many of the states were not happy with the new president. They broke away with the union.
