Add Disqus Latest / Recent Comments Widget - All New Design!
Disqus is one of the most popular online commenting platform. Since 2011, where I first Installed Disqus on BloggingeHow, the commenting platform has grow so fast and now we get to see tons of big names using the platform.

Disqus deprecated it's recent comment widget a while ago, and it was the feature I personally missed a lot. You got to show recent comments on your blog if you've a healthy discussion going on your blog and websites. Such recent comments widget motivates the readers to leave out their opinions and surely it helps grow the community.

Disqus Latest / Recent Comments Widget - All New Design!

With the Disqus recent comment widget you're about to see, it used the same deprecated mechanism, though with a new design to give it a new look and feel. There are certain limitations to Disqus Comments widget such as it's refresh rate, number of requests for widget loading and one of the biggest loop hole is it's synchronization with Disqus's database.

Meaning by, that If someone leaves a comment on your blog and it gets updated on the recent comment widget, now if the person updates or edits it's comment, the recent comment widget won't update the change as it doesn't synchronize it's self with the database at back end for older comments and only fetches new ones.

Though still, it's better to display comments to motivate new readers than to not having the widget installed in the first place

Lets get into how you can add the widget to your blogs.

Install Disqus Recent Comment Widget to Blogs

Step#1  Adding Code

Navigate to your Blogger Blogs Dashboard >> Layout >> Add a new Widget in the sidebar. (if you wish to add the widget in the sidebar).

Now simply add the following code in the HTML/Javascript gadget box.

<div id="RecentComments" class="dsq-widget">

 <script type="text/javascript" src="http://bloggingehow.disqus.com/recent_comments_widget.js?num_items=5&hide_mods=0&hide_avatars=0&avatar_size=64&excerpt_length=100"></script>
</div>

<style>
.dsq-widget  {
opacity:.6;
}
 img.dsq-widget-avatar {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #f5f5f5;
    border: 1px solid #dddddd;
    display: block;
    float: left;
    height: auto;
    margin: 10px 8px 0 2px;
    width: 72px;
pointer-events: none;
}

.dsq-widget-comment p {
     display: inline;
     line-height: 5px;
  }

a.dsq-widget-user {
    font-size: 14px;
}
p.dsq-widget-meta {
    border-bottom: 1px solid;

    clear: both;
    font-size: 75%;
    line-height: 17px;
    margin: 16px 5px 20px;
    opacity: 0.6;
    padding: 0;
}
</style>

Step#2 Add Disqus 'shortname' profile ID

Now replace bloggignehow (our disqus profile 'short name') with yours. That's all folks. Do let me know if you wish to see more customizations to the widget. Any ideas?

Cheers.

How To Make Money With Disqus Discovery CPC System
Who doesn't likes to explore new ways to monetize their blogs and make few extra bugs while they concentrate on make high quality content. Disqus discovery is a latest update from Disqus comment platform that allows publishers (Bloggers) to make money with their 'Discovery' section of their
comment platform.

In the latest update of Disqus 2012, they introduced a whole new comment plugin that was overalled with tons of new features that were extremely exciting and created a buzz in blogosphere. One of the new thing was the introduction of Discovery section of the plugin that showed relevant content besides the blogs comments. Those related articles were from other blogs/websites that had Disqus plugin installed.

Advertisers pay on the basis of CPC (Cost per click) and when your reader clicks those Discovery section related posts, you get paid in return. Take a look at the picture below to get an idea of what Discover related posts look like.

How To Start Making Money With Disqus Discovery Related Links?

To start getting paid for the clicks on your Discovery box, you need to navigate to your Disqus dashboard >> Settings >> Discovery >> Maximum increased traffic and revenue.

 How you will be paid?

Disqus discovery currently only holds a checkout mode of Paypal. Though they aim to introduce many more modes like Cheques etc in the future. For now, you can set your PayPal email via the box as shown in the picture below.

The Loophole?

Guys, to be very honest, Disqus discovery CPC bids are extremely low paying and aren't anywhere around Google AdSense cost per clicks.

What i believe?

You should surely go for it and give it a try. Though its extremely important to monitor your results. In case your blog doesn't get much traffic to make 10$ per month via this Discovery widget, i believe its of no use using it as for now.

The reason being that you wont be making much as much as damage you'll be doing to your blogs via the high bounce rate as the related posts point towards external blogs so each time a person clicks, you may loose a potential page view that he had to make later on.

So try it for a month and monitor your blog's growth metrics. If its worth using and is paying off well, you can totally continue using  it. After all its all about experimenting and try out new things that works for you.

Hope that post was helpful. Happy making money blogging folkes. Stay safe.

Which Is Better: Blogger Vs Disqus Comment System
Its often a hard decision for the new bloggers/webmasters to decide between the plugins and blog commenting platform that they should use on their blogs that would deliver the best results. Many support the native Blogger commenting system while others prefer 3rd party platforms like Disqus, Intense Debate etc. To share my experience of the both, we would go through, both the pros and cons of the both blog commenting system, Blogger and Disqus.

To note before we move on, there is always a positive as well as negative aspect of any thing that we may come across. So at the end, its the matter of personnel objects and priories. So lets start of m and discuss what these both comment system are good at, and what they lack. Then finally we'll draw a conclusion.

Disqus vs blogger

Why Disqus Rules

Disqus has always been a priority of many top performing blogs and websites today. Specially after the latest update of Disqus 2012, its pretty hard to resist it. The Sleek and decent design that Disqus comes along, has its own elegance and simplicity.

Disqus Down Sides

There are couple of things that i believe Disqus developers team needs to improve, even in the latest update of 2012. Even though the refresh speed improved pretty much, still it lacks the charm that we wish it should have. Though the comment gets published right away followed by the notification email that comes in with in few seconds, the latest comment widget takes years to update that still bugs many webmasters.

On average, it takes around 10-15 minutes for the recent comment widget to show up latest comments. Also it would have been great if Disqus team would make it much easier to switch on between dofollow/nofollow attributes with the help of a single click.

Why I Appreciate Blogger Native Comment Platform?

With in the last year, Blogger bumped up its game with the introduction of creative new tools and options with in the post editor, plus many more SEO related improvements. Blogger native comment platform is pretty easy to customize. Webmasters can easily switch nofollow/dofollow tags.

Plus the only thing that i would install Blogger comment platform is its speed. Its pretty quick to publish the comments. Plus its loads up pretty fast as compared to Disqus or any other 3rd party blog commenting system

The Down Side

Now the down sides are much more harsh. With the world moving on, web development languages becoming more proficient, there really isn't any space for Blogger comment system any more. Disqus, Intense Debate or even WordPress comments systems beat it with a huge margin in terms of looks.

Even though i am very hopeful for this change soon in Blogger, but to date, it doesn't compete with the beauty of 3rd party plugins at all.

Why I Prefer Disqus Over Anything In The World?

Again it can be the matter of personnel preference, but today, style has a great importance in terms of attracting and engaging your readers. That what lacks in Blogger native comments. Plus its been over an year and half that we have been using Disqus here at BloggingeHow, and it works like a charm. The more we use it, the more hardcore fan we become.

Before Disqus 2012, we certainly had reservations but its huge gift for the webmasters from the Disqus, that we were blessed with such amazing new updates.

I really hope that Blogger comment system gets a boost too in near future.

What Do You Use?

Share which comment platform you use, may it be Blogger native, Disqus, Intense Debate or WordPress etc. Tell us why you love it and would be its fan for ever.

How To Sync Blogger Comments With Disqus 2012
While shifting over to Disqus 2012, many Blogger users had to face the situation where their previous comments on Blogger platform didnt automatically showed up while they made this comment platform migration from Blogger to Disqus 2012. Its extremely irritating and might make a person demoralized when they feel as if they lost their hard earned comments in the migration process.

But the simple fact is, that all those previous comments (on Blogger comment system) are still intact to your blog and cant be easily shifted over to Disqus 2012 too. (or even the previous versions). Simply follow the steps below to shift your Blogger comments to Disqus 2012.
Blogger to Disqus comment import

Before moving on, you may like to read:

Step #1 Go to your Disqus 2012 import options

For Disqus 'import' options, you need to navigate to Admin >> Tools >> Import >> Blogger. Thats all about it. You would notice 'One time import' feature, followed by 'Syncing options'.

Blogger to Disqus comment import

Now simply click 'Import comments from Blogger' button. It would take some time to import your previous comments (time taken would surely depend upon the number comments that your blog holds).

Hope that was easily to follow. Leave out your questions below in case of any problem that you may face.
