Should I Buy a Custom Domain Name?
Custom domain name setup

If you're not currently using a custom domain for your blog, make sure that you know that you're making one of the biggest mistakes. Read on and I get to explain why.

I have been planing to buy a custom domain for a while and this day has finally arrived. This was indeed due to your kind support.

I felt comfortable with Blogger as i feel its meant for the young students who cant afford Word Press (blogging platform) hosting costs. BloggingeHow.com is now registered with HostnDomains (a local webhost). All the posts are hosted by Blogger.com for free.

As always, Google's services are quite generous towards their users. Free hosting is one of the best factors that make Blogger over shines WordPress. I had couple of small blogs on WordPress.com, i.e is a free web hosting services.

Should I Buy a Custom Domain Name?

The problem was the unprofessional domain name (xyz.wordpress.com) that hanged out with the blog. Also WordPress.com was like the handy caped version of WordPress.org (the real WordPress you may say).

So i finally stuck with Blogger.com and bought a custom domain due to the following solid reasons. I regret i should have done that early.

How To Start a Professional Blog for Only 0.99$! [Bonus Episode]

1- A Professional Touch

Simply apply it to your self. How do you take a blogspot.com or any other sub domain hosted blog? Not seriously right?

That's natural. This is due to the mighty graveyard of the dead blogspot.com blogs laying all around the world wide web. People often get inspired with the "Money" factor of blogs/websites and they tend to build one for them selves within seconds.

It hardly takes few seconds to build a new blogspot.com blog. The problem arises when they realize that posting frequently, that is the key to success of a blog, is a big pain. They might through out 2-4 post but after that, all the air is blown out.

So it was important for me to get a custom domain as the blogspot.com domains were so badly reputed due to all these "left over" blogs on the net space.

2- I Got it for 9.3$ Approx

    • ##check## Update: Much Affordable Now!
      • Note that you can now even get it for as low as 0.99$ from Godaddy. I explained the process in the bonus episode I embedded above.

This is the point.

How could someone not get a custom domain, that costs only and only around 10$ per year. Once you get to know the advantages of branding your blog with a custom domain, you can't resist to get one for your self too.

There are many domain registrars, where you can register your domain instantly. I went for a local one just because i didn't had the facility of credit card. So it was far easy for me to grab one from a local host.

If you are student and can't get one online, you should get one from a local one. That's equally good. You just need a custom domain name.

3- Less Than 1 Days To Setup

I will explain how to get a custom domain name in my coming posts, so that it gets easy for you to understand the whole procedure. Just so that you know, you can set it all within 1 days! That is 1 days after you register your domain with the domain host.

All the DNS (domain name system) and redirecting your old blogspot.com blog within 1 days. How could some one not shift to a custom domain; i wonder.

4-Increased My Traffic By 10% !

That actually amazed me. The day Bloggingehow.com was up, it received around 10% more traffic than before. Custom domain is taken far more seriously by people and they often tend to land on a custom domain, then a sub domain blog.

I often land on custom domains from search engine results, and when i check their standings, they are merely of any worth. Literally that's how huge a custom domain can play.

Even if your blog has less to offer, people land on it just by watching the custom domain.

The following AskHassam episode talks about how to increase your YouTube video views. Many of these strategies are relevant to a blog post too. Hope that helps you out too.

How to Increase YouTube Video Views [Bonus Video]

5- 30 Twitter Subscribers The Very Day

BloggingeHow is rising fast in Twitter world. Just a few days back we setup this little blog on Twitter and its 130+ followers already. The custom domain played a huge role in social media exposure.

I wonder how 30 of those kind people found BloggingeHow, on the very day. *Cheers* Again this couldn't have been possible without you guys.

6- More Bookmarks Rewards For Custom Domain

Custom domains often get more bookmarks then an ordinary free sub domain. As i mentioned before people take custom domains far more seriously, and love them to share with their friends and family proudly.

Though the content determines the bookmarks more, but a custom domains plays the finishing role, i would say. If a persons likes a particular blog and wants to bookmark, a custom domain name pushes him towards the bookmark button. razz

7- Less Back Links For Sub domains

Sub domains get a lower page rank normally due to the lower number of "quality" back links on their support. High quality blogs doesn't like to connect with the sub domains blogs. Do you think Darren from Problogger would like to promote a blogspot.com domain? wink

8- Hosting Is Free With Blogger-100% Up time!

As i mentioned before, Google services are quite generous. They have given the free hosting facility to their users with 100% up time. Yes you heard it right.

According to one study by pingdot.com, Blogger had 0.0 hours of down time which made it first among the leading free Blogging platforms, WordPress being second with 0.1 hour down time. So with such a great platform with free hosting, what more can you ask?

9- Popular Advertisement Services Say No To Sub domains

Yes its true. Many of the popular advertisement services doesn't accept free sub domains. Even Adsense is not allowed on free sub domains apart from Google's own blogspot.com.

Other popular services like 'Buy Sell Ads' doesn't allow free sub domains. That means you might be loosing the major portion of your blog's potential revenue. Some blogs doesn't have high CTR for Adsense so they turn over to 'Buy Sell Ads'. And if you got a sub domain, they would return you from the door step.

10- You Will Get Back Your Valuable Page Rank

CoffeeMany webmasters experiences the fall of the sudden page rank after they shift over to their custom domains. Its because the new domain is just like a new blog for search engines in starting. But when the blog is crawled again before the next page rank update, you get your page rank back.

That's discourages for some time but now when people know the deal, its not much of a problem.
So sit back and chill out.

11- Advertisers Doesn't take Sub domains Seriously

Some people like to attract the advertisers through their 'Advertise Page'. As we discussed before, free domains doesn't get attention by popular revenue generating services so the free domain users often move to direct advertisement.

Most of them fail. As advertisers look for quality blog with huge traffic and they know that most of the free sub domain holders have very few readers.

12- It Feels Great To Be The Part Of Branded Blogs

Yeah indeed its a great feeling. biggrin

How To Earn From YouTube In Pakistan?

youtube partner pakistan

YouTube is a very lucrative platform where the publishers and YouTubers, as we call them create amazing content that people like to watch, and in return, they monetize their videos with Google AdSense platform.

Though the issue still prevails in Pakistan where the publishers can't make use of the YouTube's partner program where they would monetize their hard work in the form of video content.

There are 2 videos that I've linked for you below, both relating to how you can earn from YouTube.

In this AskHassam episode, I went through a very simple strategy where all the brothers and sisters in Pakistan can become a YouTube partner in Pakistan and simply enable the feature to monetize their videos.

I was surprised, for all the years, I didn't had the idea that it would be this simple and our channel would get verified as a YouTube partner.

There are basically 2 steps involved in this:

1. Get verified with YouTube as a 'YouTube Partner'.
2. Secondly, link your Google AdSense account with your YouTube channel.

This particular Askhassam episode, explores this all.

In case you don't already have an approved Google AdSense account, which is a CPC based platform from Google that you can use to monetize your blog with cost-per-click based ads.

Checkout this blog post for that purpose: Get Google AdSense Approval: 8 PROVEN Steps - Guaranteed!

How Often Should You Blog Post?

AH: 012 How Often Should You Blog Post?

Many blogging beginners stuck to a point where they doubt the number of articles they should post, i.e the blog posting frequency. To me, i don't really think that there is something like "The best" posting frequency. Instead it actually depends upon the type of blog that you're running.

It is very wise of you that you considered this topic in your early blogging career, as this should be something a blogger needs to be very clear about. Blogging success is majorly being about consistent in what ever posting frequency you set out for your self. Its the matter of giving out a valuable content to the readers, when they expect it to come.

Posting out 10 articles a day and then leaving out blog deserted for the entire month would waste your efforts and hurt your blog credibility too. So the ultimate decision would be yours. By the help of this article, i would try to make it easy for you to decide a suitable posting frequency that would build up your credibility and drive traffic like wise too.

There are different approaches to blog posting frequency. You could either post long, in depth articles of around (5000 words) that would give out a complete solution to the topic that they cover, once a day (as what i try to achieve here at BloggingeHow), or posting out short 400-500 words articles with a greater post frequency (may be 2-3 articles daily).

Again this is for the maximum results.

Post a Lot More If Your Blog Lay In This Category

If your blog is tech related, that posts recent news and gadgets coming around every other day, than you may consider posting several times a day, with short and precise articles (300-400 words). As with such cases, the readers tend to read the latest news and gadgets rolling in, and thus short articles do the justice to the audience expectations.

What Is The Best Blog Posting Frequency?

Post Less, In-Depth Articles If Your Blog Lay In This Category

On the other hand, say your blog is related to medical tips that would post articles, suggesting ways to live a healthy life, then posting out a single article daily, or every other day would be perfect too.

So it all depends upon your niche that you're working in.

Posting Frequency Rule Of Thumb

In the early days of your blogging career, you aim to attract more and more visitors and that would be possible through search engine traffic. The more gateway that are in favor of you i.e every post that you publish serves are a door-way towards your blog, and thus drives traffic. The more roots you have in search engines, the more traffic you would get.

creative writing

The Ultimate technique that we all aim to achieve is posting 'quality' articles frequently as per visitors expectations.

When you post 1-3 articles daily, visitors make it a part of their routine to visit your blog daily, may be after morning tea (when they are in office or when ever in their daily life style). Its becomes part of their entertainment. Just make sure you don't disappoint them.

How Posting Less Works Great As Well?

See, every strategy has its pros and cons. Posting more would not allow you to write in depth articles (and thus their chances to become viral in social media becomes less) and on the hand, posting less, but long detailed posts would have a better chance to be shared among the people and it may bring in viral traffic.

You may find your article securing first page on directories. So both ways work, but its you who have to figure it out, what suites your blog audience best.

Advantages Of Posting Articles Frequently (Greater than 1 articles daily)

  1. Posts are less time consuming
  2. Bring in daily routine traffic (becomes part of a visitors daily routine)
  3. Encourages more comments
  4. Enhances more visitors engagement in your blog overall.
  5. Builds up a lively community (readers leave comments on blog that are updated frequently as per studies)

Advantages Of Posting Less-But Detailed Articles (Approx Once a week)

  1. Posts are likely to become viral as they serve a complete purpose
  2. Detailed posts often secure top positions in SERP (search engine results page)
  3. More time to concentrate on other blogging issues
  4. Becomes easy to be consistent with a single post in a week.

So What Should You Finally Do?

What Is The Best Blog Posting Frequency?Simply think what would serve best to your audience. If you would be in their place, what would you expect from your blog to be served. Would you be happy reading short, but more frequent articles that comes in daily?

Do you prefer reading short brief articles than the long detailed ones? Answer these questions and decide.

Why i Choose Posting Around 1, detailed Article Daily?

The reason is simple as explained above. I feel like writing on a single topic in detail that serves and do justice to a particular message that i wish to communicate. Like, in the case of this post. I felt like giving out my thoughts on post frequency, and for that, i had to write a detailed post that would touch every aspect of the topic.

And posting not more than 1 is because thats the best i can manage in my student life. It gets difficult to work out 2-3 hours from a day where you have other things going around in your life.

So i hope you got the idea and it has become easy for you to decide for your self the "right" posting frequency, that would help you become a successful blogger.

Astalavista!
